Cowboys Welcome Back Elliott Lose Pollard To Titans

The Dallas Cowboys' Ever-Changing Running Back Situation

Cowboys Welcome Back Elliott, Lose Pollard to Titans

The Dallas Cowboys' running game has endured significant changes this offseason. Tony Pollard, the team's leading rusher in 2022, has departed for the Tennessee Titans via free agency.

In response, the Cowboys have re-signed Ezekiel Elliott to a one-year deal. The Cowboys and Elliott reportedly agreed to the contract pending a physical examination.

Rookie Malik Davis and veteran free agent Rico Dowdle are now the only other running backs on the Cowboys' roster with NFL experience.

Dowdle and Davis: Cowboys' Remaining Running Back Options

Dowdle, 25, has played in 23 games over four seasons with the Cowboys. He accrued 189 total yards from scrimmage in a backup role last season.

Davis, 23, signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He did not appear in any games during his rookie campaign.

Cook Visit Looms for the Cowboys

The Cowboys are expected to meet with free agent running back Dalvin Cook, according to multiple reports.

Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason. He rushed for over 1,100 yards in each of the past two seasons.

Other Running Back Targets the Cowboys Could Consider

If the Cowboys fail to reach an agreement with Cook, they may consider the following free agent running backs:

  • Kareem Hunt
  • Melvin Gordon
  • Jerick McKinnon
  • Ronald Jones
